Italian artist Manna imagines the "you" of the poem as a boy journeying through a series of watercolor landscapes: fields under billowing clouds, misty nights, craggy mountaintops. Kipling's inspirational poem the one that begins, "If you can keep your head when all about you/ Are losing theirs" describes how to preserve one's honor by the principled avoidance of political and moral pitfalls. In 2003 the book was listed on the BBC's The Big Read poll of the UK's "best-loved novel." 78 on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. In 1998, the Modern Library ranked Kim No. "The book presents a vivid picture of India, its teeming populations, religions, and superstitions, and the life of the bazaars and the road." The novel is notable for its detailed portrait of the people, culture, and varied religions of India. It is set after the Second Afghan War which ended in 1881, but before the Third, probably in the period 1893 to 1898. The story unfolds against the backdrop of The Great Game, the political conflict between Russia and Britain in Central Asia. It was first published serially in McClure's Magazine from December 1900 to October 1901 as well as in Cassell's Magazine from January to November 1901, and first published in book form byMacmillan & Co. Kim is a novel by Nobel Prize-winning English author Rudyard Kipling. I, for one, want more Drenai books (Druss-themed or otherwise), and I am willing to put up with minor inconsistencies to that end. The author wanted to write another book involving Druss, so he invented an excuse to do so. Gemmell contrived in an effort to get more "mileage" out of Druss, his best-loved character. Skilgannon's request of Ulric for a fragment of Druss's bone and hair, along with Snaga, is merely a literary device Mr. Legend, when read in a vacuum, does not mention the possibility of Druss's return. Thus, you have not missed anything, though I certainly would not characterize this discrepancy as a "mistake" per se. Gemmell twenty-plus years ago could have anticipated every nuance of a multi-novel integrated story line. When he wrote Legend, there is no way that he could have anticipated just how popular this series of books would become. Since then, the popularity of his work has skyrocketed, and the Drenai Saga has become (IMO) the most beloved of his various series. Gemmell's readers (including me) were still in short pants. Published in 1984, Legend was around at a time when many of Mr. “in another dazzling courtroom performance.” “Connelly’s latest novel demonstrates why I say he’s the GOAT (“Greatest of All Time”) of police and legal procedural thrillers. “another pulsating legal thriller from a master of hard-boiled crime fiction.” “If you’re not already addicted to Mickey, his ex-wives and his brilliant half brother, investigator Harry Bosch, this perfectly constructed legal thriller will get you there.” Amazon Book Review, An Amazon Best Book of November 2020 Narration in the first person, showing a canny legal mind working furiously to hit on the right legal play, calibrates the suspense to an unbearable, read-in-one-sitting level.” “In The Law of Innocence, Michael Connelly brilliantly captures the desperation of a lawyer-turned-defendant facing a long stretch in a prison full of people with scores to settle. Combine this with a cast of well-drawn characters, writing as precise as a Patek Philippe watch, and a propulsive plot, and the result is one of the finest legal thrillers of the last decade.” “Connelly’s novels have long been distinguished by his mastery of the complexities of the justice system including an ability to get police and courtroom procedures exactly right. “A virtuoso performance even by Connelly’s high standards.”

These books, a trilogy published from 2003 to 2005, followed by a 2010 prequel, provide rollicking fun, driven by the irreverent narration of their demon protagonist–who frequently punctuates the text with self-promoting footnotes.
